"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people"☔️π
If you are suffering from depression please remember that you are not weak. You may just be drained from being strong for too long, tired of waiting, praying with no results, and may lack support from friends or family. In some cases you may think that you have it all yet still feel like something's missing in your life. That's the demon of depression! It's a dark place that's often hidden and we tend to suffer alone. Who would have ever thought that the late Comedian Robin Williams suffered from depression leading to his suicide in 2014, or Rev. Teddy Parker of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Atlanta who made headlines after his suicide, read here.
It is real out there folks, the devil is at work.
I have suffered from severe depression and trust me all the books you read about meditating, being social, exercising, etc to battle depression does not work if you are in a very dark place. How do you genuinely make friends when you are not happy with yourself? How do you exercise when you can barely get out of bed? Believe me the only thing that works or helps is God. No I am not trying to sound cliche or 'Religious', building that relationship with Christ is the only way and he will guide you through the healing process. I found this out the hard way:-) that's why I am willing to share. Alcohol, prescription drugs or narcotics, I call temps, the minute they wear off, you are worse than ever and even more down because you are getting to realize that you are heading to being an addict to add to the list of injuries in your life. Been there, Done that! Do not rely on man either trust me, I shared my experience with my then Pastor after my failed suicide attempt. See previous post.
Relying on God with an open mind (accepting his will for your life), will lead you to resources as well as bring people into your life who will help and uplift you. Accepting his will meaning being the best you can be in your role while striving for higher. A friend of mine who lost her job took a menial job at the church driving school children. She rocked a suit everyday doing this, you'd think she worked on Wall Street and most made fun of her but she was not going to let her circumstance stop her from achieving her goals. She accepted God's will at that moment, a PHD in Science transporting kids? Fast forward to now, she owns her own after-school program where she gets to use her skills to help kids and guess what? She is not working for anybody and has one of the most successful programs in her Borough. That's what I mean about accepting God's will.
It is not going to be easy as the devil will try you, however you MUST have the will to live, believing that no matter what society thinks of you, God created a special and unique person in you. Keep that dignity up, prepare yourself for success and keep striving. Even if it is unimaginable, do your best to work towards it knowing and believing that God's got you. The day's that you are back to zero, do NOT beat yourself up, it's expected. It's very ok, read a Psalm, scripture, post something enlightening on social media, try to reach out and enlighten others and continue to hold unto the garments of Christ. If you are in a situation where you think you have it all and don't understand the sadness, practice gratitude. Google poverty and see how fortunate you are. Volunteer at a Shelter, Give, mentor a homeless person, try to help someone one-on-one not just giving to a charity. While you are helping others it will also be therapeautic for you.
A day at a time is all you can do and STOP comparing yourself to others. We all have different destiny's and paths in life. Be the best you can be in your lane and do not allow the devil to defeat you. You are more than a conquerer, let it bounce of your back and remember that God's got ya ♥
