1 Thessalonians 5:18 (AMP): 'In every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.'
π You’d think that growing closer to God would mean everything starts falling into place, but sometimes challenges increase right when your faith feels stronger. This doesn’t necessarily mean you are doing something wrong; it often means your faith is being strengthened. Through challenges and trials, your trust in God grows deeper, you become more resilient, and less dependent on comfort or circumstances.
Soul Dive: 1 Thessalonians was written by the Apostle Paul, along with Silas and Timothy, around AD 50–51, making it one of the earliest
letters in the New Testament. They were ministry partners in spreading the
gospel, with Paul as the primary author and leader, and Silas and Timothy
supporting the work through teaching, encouragement, and strengthening the
early churches.
Paul wrote this letter to encourage the believers in Thessalonica (now
Greece, an ancient city in Macedonia), who were facing persecution and
uncertainty, to strengthen their faith as they learned to live for Christ
while waiting for His return (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17, John 14:1–3). Many people in Thessalonica rejected Christ's teachings because they believed his message challenged
their traditions, social norms, and positions of authority. Religious leaders
believed that following rules and appearing 'holy' made someone righteous, but
Jesus taught that God cares more about the heart than outward behavior; Relationship over religion, that’s always been my MOπ!
Following Christ also affected people’s livelihoods, especially those who made
money through idol worship, which made Jesus’ message costly for those in
power. One clear message many rejected was Christ's call to: 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near' (Matthew 4:17). This message required humility, change, and turning away from old
ways, something many were unwilling to do. These are a few reasons why the people of Thessalonica
rejected Paul’s teachings. Imagine trying to follow Christ in a place where
faith was not welcomed and opposition was everywhere, it was a truly hostile
environment for believers.
Mental Reset: Apostle Paul teaches that gratitude isn’t based on our circumstances. It’s
an act of trust and obedience to God. When we give thanks in every situation,
even during hardship or opposition, our hearts stay anchored in faith. It reflects God’s will for believers to remain spiritually strong, no
matter what life brings. It's also not about pretending everything is fine; it’s seeing
your situation through faith instead of fear, trusting that God is at work even
when the outcome isn’t clear. Even when finances are tight, plans fail, or peace feels shaky, choosing
gratitude shifts our focus from what’s missing, to who is truly sustaining us. Scripture reminds us that we are not always fighting people or circumstances, but a spiritual battle happening beyond what we can see (Ephesians 6:12).
So
no matter what you face today, choose Gratitude. Make it a daily habit, because
every day is a gift from God. While you can breathe easily, others are fighting
for their lives on a ventilator. That’s something to truly thank God for. What
might feel small or ordinary to you is a blessing to someone else. Try to see
things from that perspective. I know it’s not always easy, but I pray God gives
you the strength and wisdom to recognize His blessings. Trust that He is at
work, even when it’s hard to see. Stay anchored in faith, and remember that He
is always with you, Amen ππ.
πLet's Pray: Father God,Thank You for walking with me through every season. Help me remain grateful
even when things don’t make sense. Give me clarity, guard my heart from fear,
and remind me that You are working on my behalf. Teach me to trust You fully
and rest in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
