3 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Setting spiritual goals I think is one area we tend to overlook. We set goals for our finances, fitness, education, success, but for some reason when it comes to setting goals towards our growth in Christ we don't necessarily think of it because hey as long as I go to church, bible study, I pray & try to be a faithful obedient Christian I am good. Think about it... when you fall in love with someone, you make an effort and do the best you can to get to know them, to see if you are compatible. When you set a fitness goal you hit the gym or watch your diet until you achieve that ideal weight. What about being that ideal Christian, the one who fights temptation and try's to obey the word of God in today's society with no excuses. Our creator has given us life, he died for our sins, he is a forgiving God, a provider, a friend, healer, comforter, I can go on & on. We all have testimonies to share so why not make an effort? There are so MANY outlets these days for spiritual growth it's really up to you to make an effort and PRIORITIZE, Put God First! Psalm 37:4 (ESV) states: Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Yesterday I discussed Pride & Humility. Having a humble attitude will help us recognize our weaknesses and seek help in overcoming temptation or whatever we may be struggling with. Life is a time of struggles, trials, and temptations as well as a time to prepare ourselves to meet God. Nobody knows too much trust me there is always something to learn or experience as you grow in Christ.
This year has been the first time I set any spiritual goals as I mentioned in my earlier posts my goal is to get out of 'Religion' and study, memorize, understand & reflect on a Bible scripture a day. I have also made Prayer & Bible study a priority and thank God for my growth. I am amazed at how far I have come. I started with 10 mins a day:-) and now I can go on for hours. I enjoy it, I love it, it's Zen for me and I really thank God for this opportunity. The temptations & trials are no fun lol, but thank God for giving me the strength to endure; remember the closer you get to God the more desperate the devil becomes. This weekend, reflect on yourself, where do you need to be spiritually? What can you do to achieve your goal? Do you need to find a new church, change friends, make more time in your schedule, whatever it is I pray that God will give you the wisdom. Remember press ahead, look forward. Your past is gone, forgiven, you are a new creation in Christ. God is waiting, make him a priority ♥ #HeavenBound
